Background
On October 5, 1982, at about 7:30 p.m. in the evening, Daniel Naylor, a 14-year-old boy from Fremont, was last seen leaving his house on Nightingale Place in an unknown direction after an argument. After an extensive search conducted by Daniel’s neighbors, his bike was located not far away, along the Alameda Creek Trail. Additional follow-up with miscellaneous leads and possible sightings of Daniel were met with negative results.
Approximately one month after his disappearance, when no one was home, Daniel supposedly returned to his house and collected every piece of property that belonged to him. Daniel was never seen or heard from again and the case has since gone cold.
Possible Missing Person Sighting
In the summer of 2015, Fremont Police detectives were contacted by the Folsom Police Department in regard to the possible location of Daniel. Folsom Police had located a male subject in their city that looked very similar to an age-progressed photo that had been released of Daniel at 44 years. After an extensive investigation into the subject located in Folsom, it was determined through forensic evidence that while they looked similar, it was unfortunately not him.
After the Folsom incident, Fremont Police Department Cold Case Investigators decided to reopen the missing person case and began speaking with associates of Daniel Naylor and his family.
Fremont Police Detectives are currently investigating leads where it is believed that Daniel did not in fact run away, but he may be missing due to foul play.
